Poland: PMI unaltered for the third month straight in November
The IHS Markit manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was stable at 50.8 for the third month straight in November, thus signaling an improvement in business conditions in the Polish manufacturing sector compared to the previous month. That said, the reading hints that the economic recovery remains modest.
In November, output fell as new orders contracted for the second month running and at a faster rate than in the prior month. However, firms lifted employment levels despite weakening demand, with the rate of job creation the quickest since June 2018, which supported the positive reading. On the price front, input cost inflation accelerated in November due to raw materials shortages, while output charges only rose marginally. Lastly, although Polish firms were optimistic about the outlook for the year ahead, sentiment in the sector was historically subdued.
