Rice prices soared to an over 10-year high in August on tighter global supply, as top exporter India banned shipments of white rice in July and introduced additional export restrictions in August. Prices averaged USD 593 per metric ton in August, up 10.3% from July’s price and 38.3% higher year on year. On 31 August, rice traded at USD 646 per metric ton, 12.9% higher month on month.
