Steel (USA) prices averaged USD 1,086 per metric ton in May, up 3.5% from April. On 29 May, the commodity traded at USD 1,123 per metric ton, up 3.9% from 30 April.
Unlike its European counterpart, U.S. steel prices extended their winning streak in May, rising for the eighth straight month and averaging 15% higher vs January; high import costs due to tariffs and elevated costs of key inputs like energy and iron ore fanned the metal’s price to a three-year high in the month.
