Inflation eases in April from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 3.2% on a year-on-year basis in April, following a 3.5% rise in the previous month. April's reading was the weakest since September 2024. Relative to the prior month's figures, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.7% in annual terms vs +4.3% in March) and restaurants and hotels (+3.0% vs +4.0% in March). In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for transportation (+7.5% vs +6.4% in March), housing and utilities (+3.6% vs +1.9% in March) and recreation (+1.6% vs +1.4% in March). Meanwhile, consumer prices were up 3.4% in annual terms in April, following a 3.6% rise in the prior month. Lastly, harmonized consumer prices rose 0.86% in April on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.04% fall in the previous month.
