Exchange Rate in Cote d'Ivoire
Cote d'Ivoire - Exchange RateCovid-19 likely hit the economy hard in the second quarter, after annual growth slowed to 3.8% in the first quarter (Q4 2019: +6.9% year-on-year). On the domestic side, social distancing measures seemingly hampered activity in the services and hospitality industries, in turn likely denting private consumption while also derailing ongoing infrastructure projects. Meanwhile, a weak global trading environment and disrupted supply chains seem to have severely squeezed important oil, cocoa and cotton exports. Restrictions were gradually lifted since mid-May, however, which should have supported activity at the tail end of Q2. Meanwhile, unsettling the political outlook, Amadou Gon Coulibaly, the prime minister and the ruling RHDP party’s candidate for the October presidential election, died suddenly on 8 July, while Vice President Daniel Kablan Duncan resigned a few days after.
