Cote d'Ivoire - Exchange Rate

Annual growth remained robust in the first quarter (Q1: +7.2% year-on-year; Q4 2018: +7.3% yoy) thanks to sustained growth in agricultural output, fostered by a healthy cocoa harvest and booming cotton production. This, coupled with upbeat oil output, powered merchandise exports in Q1. Furthermore, retails sales rose at a healthy clip in Q1, amid low inflation and higher cocoa farmgate prices. On a less positive note, industrial production slumped in Q1, denting the overall expansion. Meanwhile, on 14 June, the IMF completed its fifth review under the lending program, enabling an additional USD 134 million to be disbursed and bringing total financing under the arrangement to USD 766 million. The Fund highlighted commendable progress in implementing sound macroeconomic policies and structural reforms.
