Thailand: Manufacturing PMI rises in January
The S&P Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 46.7 in January from December’s 45.1. As such, the index remained entrenched below the 50.0 no-change threshold, signaling a smaller deterioration in manufacturing sector operating conditions compared to the previous month.
A softer decline in new orders and a rebound in output were behind January’s reading. Moreover, employment fell at a softer clip. Additionally, optimism for the coming 12 months improved amid marketing efforts and expectations of better economic conditions. On the price front, input costs rose at an accelerating pace, as did output prices.
