Taiwan: Industrial production growth slows in August
Industrial output increased 2.3% in August from the same month last year, down from the revised 3.8% increase in July (previously reported: +3.0% year-on-year).
The slowdown in growth in August came as output in the manufacturing sector—which represents more than 90% of total industrial production—rose 2.1%, down from 3.8% in July. Moreover, output in the water supply sector decreased, contrasting the increase in July. On the other hand, the electricity and gas supply sector saw output growth accelerate in August, while production in the mining and quarry sector increased, contrasting the decrease in July.
On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial output rose 0.1% in August, down from 2.8% in July. Annual average growth in industrial production edged up to 0.3% in August from 0.2% in July.
