Russia: Inflation edges down in April
In April, consumer prices rose 0.3% from the previous month, matching March’s increase. According to Rosstat, prices rose mildly for services, while stronger gains for food products continued to drive the overall increase.
Inflation inched down to 5.2% in April, from March’s 5.3%. March’s result had marked the highest reading since December 2016. Although, January’s VAT hike has pushed up inflation, the overall effects have been milder than expected, partly due to weak demand dynamics so far this year.
Annual average inflation rose to 3.8% in April, from March’s 3.6%.
