Poland: Retail sales growth remains robust in February
Nominal retail sales rose 6.5% year-on-year in February, marginally down from January’s 6.6% rise. Strong growth in the first two months bodes well for consumer spending in Q1. February’s expansion was driven largely by fast sales of furniture, radio, TV and household appliances, as well as of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopedic equipment. Motor vehicle sales, which have been volatile since the recent introduction of new emissions-testing procedures, increased marginally.
All told, annual average growth in nominal retail sales inched down to 7.6% from 7.7% in January.
