Malaysia: Growth in industrial production picks up slightly in September
Industrial production expanded 2.3% in September over the same month a year ago, up from August’s 2.2% increase. The result came in slightly above market expectations and was driven by robust growth in the manufacturing and electricity generation sectors more than offsetting a sharp contraction in the mining sector, with both the production of natural gas and crude oil falling markedly.
In month-on-month terms, industrial output contracted 0.4% in September and matched the previous month’s drop. Annual average growth in industrial production eased from 3.4% in August to 3.1% in September.
