Italy: Inflation inches down in February
Consumer prices were stable month-on-month in February, following January’s 0.1% uptick, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute (ISTAT) on 28 February. The figure mainly reflected lower prices for non-regulated energy products and for services related to transport, which offset higher prices for unprocessed food. Meanwhile, inflation inched down from 0.5% in January to 0.4% in the second month of the year.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, were stable from the previous month in February, down from the 0.2% rise recorded in February. Meanwhile, core inflation was unchanged at January’s 0.8%, while harmonized inflation ticked down from 0.4% in January to 0.3% in February.
