Indonesia: Manufacturing PMI improves to near one-year high in September
The Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), produced by S&P Global, rose to 53.7 in September from 51.7 in the month prior; the joint-highest result in nearly one year. As a result, the PMI rose further above the 50-threshold that separates improving from deteriorating conditions in the manufacturing sector compared to the previous month.
September’s result was spearheaded by marked improvements in new orders and output. Moreover, increased overall demand also led to a swifter increase in headcount. On the price front, inflationary pressures continued to ease, with both input price inflation and output charges easing to multi-month lows. Lastly, optimism over the coming 12 months waned due to concerns over elevated price pressures.
