Ecuador: Economic activity picks up in May but remains weak
Economic activity rose 1.9% over the same month of the previous year in May, according to the monthly economic activity indicator (IDEAC, Indice de Actividad Económica Coyuntural) released by the Central Bank of Ecuador. This was up from a 1.6% year-on-year rise in April, although remained relatively lackluster.
In month-on-month, seasonally-adjusted terms, economic activity was up 0.6% in May, marking an acceleration from April’s 0.2% expansion. Lastly, annual average growth in economic activity inched down to 3.0% from 3.1% in April.
