Colombia: Manufacturing activity expands for first time in eight months in December
The Davivienda Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) came in at 52.0 in December, up from November’s 49.4. As a result, the index rose above the 50.0 no-change threshold for the first time since April, signaling an improvement in manufacturing sector operating conditions from the previous month.
Output and new orders rose for the first time in eight months, and employment levels stabilized. The data suggests that the manufacturing sector may be recovering after a tough 2023, a year which featured the highest interest rates since the 1990s.
Looking at prices, input inflation rose while output inflation was stable. Finally, looking ahead, business expectations for output a year ahead strengthened.
