Chile: Economic activity inches up in May
In May, the IMACEC index gathered momentum for a third consecutive month. Economic activity rose 2.3% year-on-year in May, accelerating from April’s 2.1% result.
The print chiefly reflected a jump in non-mining economic activity, which accelerated to 2.8% in May from 2.1% a month prior. In contrast, activity in the mining economy contracted 2.3% after increasing 1.9% in April.
In seasonally-adjusted terms, economic activity rose 0.2% month-on-month in May, edging down from April’s 0.3% increase.
