Argentina: Inflation moderates in February
Consumer prices rose 2.0% over the previous month in February, coming in below January’s 2.3% rise and marking the softest increase since January 2018, according to the National Statistical Institute (INDEC).
In terms of sub-components of the index, the moderation came mainly on the back of a marked deceleration in price increases for food and non-alcoholic beverages and beverages and tobacco. On the other hand, accelerations in price growth for clothing and footwear and education as well as a rebound in prices for healthcare and home maintenance and equipment were recorded.
Meanwhile, inflation declined, coming in at an over one-year low of 50.3% in February (January: 52.9%), while annual average inflation inched down to 53.8% from 53.9% in January.
