United States: Home price growth accelerates to the fastest pace since August 2004 in May
The S&P/Case-Shiller 20-city composite home price index increased 2.1% month-on-month in May, after April’s 2.2% rise. When adjusted for seasonal factors, home prices were up 1.8% in May, after rising 1.7% in April.
Home prices surged 17.0% in annual terms in May, up from April’s 15.0% jump and marked the quickest pace of growth in over sixteen years. Home prices rose at the quickest rate in Phoenix—for 24 months in a row now—followed by San Diego and Seattle. Overall, all 20 cities registered double-digit price growth in May.
