The Spanish Board of Architects approved 8,194 new construction permits in January, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Works. The figure was below the 9,306 permits granted in January 2019 but above the 8,072 permits granted in December 2019. On an annual basis, permits declined 11.9% in January, contrasting December’s 6.2% increase.
The moving three-month sum of permits totaled 23,162 in January, which represented a 11.5% plunge from the same period in 2019 and followed the 4.4% drop recorded in December 2019. The current number of permits represents a mere fraction of the 268,266 permits granted during the July–September 2006 peak.
