South Africa: Inflation rises in October
Inflation reverted its recent trend in October and increased to 7.6%, which was up from Septembers 7.5%. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased at a marginally stronger pace in October. Additionally, prices for housing and utilities also grew at a slightly sharper pace.
Consequently, the trend pointed up slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 6.6% in October (September: 6.4%). Meanwhile, core inflation rose to 5.0% in October, from Septembers 4.7%.
Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.38% over the previous month in October, picking up from September’s 0.09% increase.
