Slovakia: Inflation rises in January
Consumer prices increased 2.70% over the previous month in January, picking up from December’s 0.20% increase. January’s uptick was the highest reading since January 2004. The pick-up was broad-based, with greater price pressures recorded for food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing and utilities, and transportation.
Inflation rose to 8.4% in January, following December’s 5.8%. January’s figure marked the highest inflation rate since July 2004. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.8% in January (December: 3.2%). Lastly, harmonized inflation rose to 7.7% in January, from the previous month’s 5.1%.
