Slovakia: Industrial production growth accelerates in December

In December, industrial production grew 3.0% from the same month of the previous year, which marked an acceleration from November’s 2.4% expansion. According to the Statistical Institute, December’s improvement was broad-based as it reflected increases in all three major categories. The electricity, gas and air-conditioning category grew at the fastest pace, followed by mining and quarrying, while manufacturing came last.

On a monthly basis, industrial production increased 0.4% in seasonally-adjusted terms in December. The print followed November’s 1.0% growth. Annual average growth in industrial production decreased from 3.7% in November to 3.5% in December, the lowest figure in five months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 4.0% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees industrial growth accelerating to 4.9%.
