Slovakia: Economic sentiment hits a near two-year high in February
Economic sentiment rose to 98.1 in February from January’s 97.1. February’s result marked the strongest sentiment since May 2022. Despite the uptick, the index remained below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print chiefly reflected improved confidence in the services sector. Meanwhile, sentiment in the industrial and construction sectors weakened, and confidence in the retail sector softened in the surveyed month. Finally, consumer sentiment deteriorated in February.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations weakened, while the economic uncertainty index decreased in February.
