Romania: Inflation comes in at highest level since May 2011 in January
Consumer prices increased a seasonally-adjusted 1.48% in January over the previous month, picking up from December’s 0.71% rise. January’s figure marked the highest reading since October 2021. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food rose at a faster rate in January, while services prices also accelerated.
Inflation increased to 8.3% in January, following December’s 8.2% and representing the highest inflation rate since May 2011. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 5.5% in January (December: 5.1%). Finally, core inflation rose to 5.3% in January, from the previous month’s 4.8%.
