Poland: Business confidence ticks up in August
Manufacturing-sector business confidence inched up in August, ending three months of consecutive drops, according to the business tendency indicators released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS). August’s business climate indicator rose to 4.3 from 4.1 in July, which had marked the weakest reading since December 2017. Although business confidence has deteriorated significantly since mid-2018, the indicator has so far remained above the zero-point mark that distinguishes optimism from pessimism in the manufacturing sector.
August’s uptick came on the back of a slight improvement in business expectations on the future general economic situation and their order books, and assessments of the current general economic situation and their order books. Moreover, firms were slightly less negative regarding their current production levels and also had somewhat more positive production expectations. On the flip side, firms’ assessments of their current financial situation deteriorated, as did their expectations on their future financial situation.
