Mexico: Consumer sentiment improves in September
Consumer confidence rose in September, with the seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence indicator published by the Statistical Institute (INEGI) coming in at 44.7 points, up from 43.6 points in the previous month. Starting August 2019, INEGI reports the indicator as a balance rather than as an index.
September’s upturn was mainly driven by households’ improved assessment over the current state of the economy and general economic situation in the year ahead. Additionally, consumers’ appraisal of their current and future financial situation turned more favorable compared to August. Meanwhile, their views on the ability to purchase big-ticket items remained unchanged.
