Malaysia: Industrial output records lowest expansion since January in June
Industrial output increased 1.4% in year-on-year terms in June, which was a deterioration from May’s 26.1% increase. June’s outturn marked the worst reading since January. The notable slowdown was largely driven by a softer growth in mining and quarrying production. Meanwhile, both manufacturing and electricity and gas output swung into contraction.
On a seasonally-adjusted monthly basis, industrial output rebounded, rising 1.4% in June (May: -3.4% s.a. mom). Lastly, the trend improved slightly, with the annual average growth of industrial production coming in at plus 7.5%, up from May’s 7.4%.
