Kenya: Inflation rises further in May
Consumer prices rose 0.78% month on month in May on a seasonally-adjusted basis, down from April’s 1.69% increase.
Inflation jumped to 7.1% in May, up from April’s 6.5% and marking the highest rate in over one year. A double-digit annual rise in food prices was the key driver behind May’s inflation reading, although price pressures for housing, transport and fuels also increased at rapid paces. Consequently, annual average inflation rose to 6.2% in May from 6.1% in April.
