Kenya: Inflation soars to over five-year high in September
Inflation came in at 9.2% in September, up from August’s 8.5%. September’s figure represented the highest inflation rate since June 2017. The acceleration was broad-based, with greater price pressures recorded for food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing, utilities and fuel, and transportation.
Consequently, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation rising to 6.8% in September (August: 6.6%).
Lastly, consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.92% in September over the previous month, accelerating from August’s 0.42% rise. September’s figure was the highest reading since April.
