Kenya: Inflation slides in December

In December, consumer prices in Kenya rose 0.77% compared the previous month, coming in above the 0.71% increase observed in November. December’s rise mainly reflected higher food prices.

Inflation edged down from 6.7% in November to 6.4% in December. The figure remained within the Central Bank’s inflation target range of 5.0% plus/minus 2.5 percentage points. Annual average inflation dropped from 6.5% in November to 6.3% in December, the lowest reading since November 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 6.3% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2018, the panel expects average inflation of 6.2%.
