Israel: Exports contract in April

In April, exports totaled USD 4.0 billion (March: USD 5.1 billion), according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The reading marked a 2.7% contraction over the same month last year, which contrasted the 2.3% increase tallied in March.

Meanwhile, imports totaled USD 4.7 billion in April, which was below the USD 6.1 billion registered in March. April’s reading marked a 19.7% decrease year-on-year, which was a deterioration over the 2.0% decrease observed in the previous month.

The trade balance recorded a USD 700 million deficit in April, which was up from the USD 1.7 billion deficit recorded in the same month last year. In addition, the figure was up from the USD 1.0 billion shortfall observed in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect exports to expand 4.4% in 2015 and 6.9% in 2016.
