Ireland: Manufacturing output contracts sharply in June
The highly volatile Irish manufacturing industries production index fell 9.0% in seasonally-adjusted, month-on-month terms in June, contrasting a revised 3.1% rise in May (previously reported: +2.5% month-on-month). June’s print reflected contractions in the food, textiles and paper industries. Downturns in these areas more than offset solid expansions in the metals, wood and transport equipment industries.
In annual terms, overall industrial production fell 1.7% in June, contrasting a 7.6% upturn in May. Lastly, the annual average variation in industrial output growth fell to 1.6% in June from 2.7% in May.
