January 20, 2023

Inflation edged up to 2.0% in December, above November’s 1.8%, amid faster price rises for food and transport. Mild domestic demand has likely capped inflation in recent months; inflation is far lower than in other developed economies.

Lastly, consumer prices increased a seasonally adjusted 0.19% in December over the previous month, matching November's reading. December's result marked the weakest reading since September.

FocusEconomics panelists forecast inflation to average 2.2% in 2023, which is unchanged from the previous month’s forecast. In 2024, our panel expects inflation to average 2.0%.
