Greece: Unemployment rate inches down in December
The number of unemployed workers decreased by 11,908 from November in December, while the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate ebbed to 12.8% from 13.4% in December. The print shows the continuation of an improving labor market, with the unemployment rate now at levels not seen since June 2010.
Meanwhile, youth unemployment—categorized by individuals between the ages of 15–24—fell to 27.0% in December from 34.3% in November.
Since its peak of 28% in 2013, the unemployment rate has been falling consistently. Looking ahead, the labor market should continue to benefit from a recovering hospitality sector. As such, the unemployment rate is seen averaging much lower this year.
