France: Inflation stable in December
Data released by the National Statistical Institute (INSEE) on 5 January showed that consumer prices rose 0.3% from the previous month in December (November: +0.1% month-on-month). The reading came on the back of higher prices for energy and food products, which more than offset lower prices for manufactured goods.
Inflation, meanwhile, was steady at the prior month’s reading of 1.2% in December. Annual average inflation was also stable at the previous month’s reading of 1.0% in December.
Harmonized consumer prices rose 0.4% month-on-month in December (November: +0.1% mom), and harmonized inflation inched up from 1.2% in November to 1.3% in December. Annual average HICP inflation also inched up, from 1.1% in November to 1.2% in December.
