France: Industrial production rebounds in April

In April, industrial production expanded a seasonally-adjusted 0.3% over the previous month. The reading, which marked an improvement over March’s 0.4% drop and met market expectations, was also the strongest expansion that has been recorded since November 2013. According to the French Statistics Institute, the monthly increase was the result of an improvement in the manufacturing and construction sectors.

On an annual basis, industrial production contracted 2.0% in April, which was down from the 0.5% drop tallied in March. Annual average growth in industrial production edged down to minus 0.3% in April from the minus 0.1% tallied in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 0.7% in 2014, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, participants expect industrial output to expand 1.9%.
