France: Consumer confidence deteriorates in March

March 25, 2011

In March, the consumer sentiment index published by the National Statistical Institute (INSEE) fell to 83 points from 85 points in February, the lowest level since June 2009. With the March drop, consumer confidence fell further below its long-term average of 100 points. Households expressed a lower willingness to carry out major purchases, as expectations regarding their personal financial situation deteriorated over last month. However, data showed an improvement in their current saving capacity and employment expectations.
