Finland: Current account tallied a deficit in January
The current account posted a EUR 0.1 billion deficit in January, impriving from the EUR 0.2 billion shortfall recorded in December (January 2023: EUR 0.1 billion surplus). Meanwhile, the 12-month trailing current account deficit, coming in at EUR 4.0 billion in January (December: EUR 4.0 billion deficit).
The merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a EUR 0.6 billion surplus in January (December 2024: EUR 0.1 billion surplus). Merchandise exports contracted 9.0% over the same month last year in January, following December’s 18.1% plunge. Meanwhile, merchandise imports slid 11.8% on an annual basis in January (December: -16.1% yoy).
