Finland: Current account slips into deficit in February
The current account fell to a deficit of EUR 0.4 billion in February, contrasting the EUR 0.2 billion surplus recorded in both January 2020 (previously reported: EUR -0.2 billion) and February 2019.
In the 12 months leading up to February, the current account balance logged a shortfall of EUR 2.9 billion, dropping from January’s EUR 2.3 billion deficit.
The merchandise trade balance fell to a EUR 0.6 billion deficit in February having been balanced in January and contrasting the EUR 0.1 billion surplus in February 2019. Exports dived 13.6% in February compared with the same month a year earlier, following the 17.1% contraction in January, while imports edged up 0.2% this month, having fallen 4.2% in the month prior.
