Euro Area: Economic sentiment broadly stable in January
Sentiment in the Eurozone dipped to 96.2 in January from 96.3 in December. Consequently, the index remained entrenched below its long-run average of 100, signaling persistent pessimism.
Sentiment in the services and industrial sectors improved slightly, while sentiment in the construction sector worsened, as did consumer confidence. Meanwhile, selling price expectations rose in the services and industrial sectors, while they fell in the construction sector and remained broadly stable in the retail trade sector. Moreover, employment expectations weakened.
In terms of specific countries, sentiment deteriorated in Germany, while it improved in France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.
