Egypt: Inflation rises in May
Consumer prices rose 0.71% in May over the previous month, a smaller increase than the 0.89% rise recorded in April. The figure was primarily due to slower growth in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transport.
Inflation came in at 4.8% in May, up from April’s 4.1%. May’s figure was the highest inflation rate since December 2020. Annual average inflation ticked up to 4.6% in May (April: 4.5%), while core inflation inched up to 3.4% in May, from April’s 3.3%.
