Costa Rica: Inflation decelerates in January
In January, consumer prices increased 0.41% month-on-month, down slightly from December’s 0.47% increase. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), January’s increase was primarily caused by higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. On the other hand, decreases in prices for clothing and footwear, communications and miscellaneous goods and services moderated the overall rise in consumer prices in January.
Inflation decelerated to 2.4% in January, down from 2.6% in December but remaining within the Central Bank’s 2.0%–4.0% target range. Meanwhile, annual average inflation ticked up to 1.8% in January from 1.6% in December.
