Colombia: Merchandise exports contract year on year in August
Merchandise exports fell 17.6% year-on-year in August, down from July’s 71.7% increase.
Merchandise imports, meanwhile, grew 30.5% in August, easing from July’s 43.6% expansion. The merchandise trade deficit widened to USD 3.6 billion in August from the USD 0.5 billion shortfall recorded in July. Accordingly, the trend deteriorated, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance coming in at a USD 17.9 billion deficit in August (July: USD 15.7 billion shortfall).
