Colombia: Merchandise exports contract in May
Merchandise exports rose 47.0% in annual terms in May (April: +83.5% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports climbed 42.6% over the same month last year in May (April: +31.5% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 1.3 billion shortfall in May (April 2022: USD 0.3 billion deficit; May 2021: USD 1.0 billion deficit). Lastly, the trend deteriorated, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 18.3 billion deficit in May, compared to the USD 16.3 billion deficit in April.
