Colombia: Consumer confidence inches down in November

December 21, 2015

The Fedesarrollo consumer sentiment index moderated from October’s 6.8 points to 6.7 points in November. Despite the slight decrease, the index remains above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory.

The moderation reflected decreases in three of the five sub-components that comprise the index. More precisely, consumers’ view of future general economic conditions in Colombia became pessimistic, which more than offset an improvement in consumers’ belief that they will be better off economically in a year.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast participants expect total consumption to expand 2.6% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects total consumption to increase 3.2%.
