Bulgaria: Inflation comes in at highest level since May 1998 in June
Consumer prices increased 0.88% in June over the previous month, below May’s 1.21% increase. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell in June while prices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels grew at a more moderate rate. Meanwhile, transportation prices expanded at a stronger pace.
Inflation came in at 16.9% in June, which was up from May’s 15.6%. June’s result represented the highest inflation rate since May 1998. Meanwhile, annual average inflation rose to 9.3% in June (May: 8.1%). Finally, harmonized inflation rose to 14.8% in June, from May’s 13.4%.
