Brazil: Consumer confidence hits six-month high in August, but remains in negative territory
The seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence index published by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) came in at 80.2 in August, up from July’s 78.8, marking the strongest reading since March. Consequently, the index moved closer to, but still remained below, the 100-point threshold, indicating pessimism among consumers.
The uptick came on the back of an improvement in consumers’ assessments of the current economic situation. In addition, households’ perception of the future economic situation also turned notably less pessimistic compared to the previous month.
