Austria: Harmonized inflation increases in December
Harmonized inflation increased to 5.7% in December, coming in above November’s 4.9% and the Euro area average of 2.9%. The reading was driven by rising price pressures for transportation and housing. That said, lower price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages capped the overall increase.
The trend pointed down, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 7.7% in December (November: 8.1%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation rose to 5.6% in December, from November’s 5.3%.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.47% in December over the previous month, accelerating from November’s 0.17% increase.
