Austria: Harmonized inflation falls to over two-year low in January
Harmonized inflation dropped to 4.3% in January (December: 5.7%), the weakest inflation rate since December 2021, despite being markedly above the Euro area’s average of 2.8%. The decline was broad-based and chiefly reflected lower price pressures recorded for housing and utilities, and for food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Accordingly, the trend pointed down, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 7.1% in January (December: 7.7%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation fell to 4.5% in January, from December’s 5.6%.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.35% from the previous month in January, contrasting the 0.47% increase recorded in December. January’s result marked the weakest reading in two years.
