Argentina: GDP growth records slowest increase since Q1 2021 in Q4
GDP growth slowed markedly to 8.6% year on year in the fourth quarter of 2021, from 11.9% in the third quarter. Q4’s reading marked the worst since Q1.
Private consumption growth fell to 11.4% in Q4, marking the weakest expansion since Q1 2021 (Q3: +12.1% yoy). Government spending growth waned to 10.7% in Q4 (Q3: +11.3% yoy). Meanwhile, fixed investment growth fell to 13.0% in Q4, marking the worst reading since Q3 2020 (Q3: +21.0% yoy).
Exports of goods and services growth picked up to 23.0% year on year in the fourth quarter, which marked the best reading since Q3 2010 (Q3: +18.9% yoy). Conversely, imports of goods and services growth softened to 20.5% in Q4 (Q3: +26.5% yoy).
On a seasonally-adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis, economic growth moderated to 1.5% in Q4, following the previous quarter’s 4.0% increase.
