Angola: Angolan oil output and Brent prices rise in July
Brent prices averaged USD 80.1 per barrel in July, up 6.9% from June’s price and 23.9% lower year on year. Similarly, on 31 July, Brent traded at USD 85.6 per barrel, 14.9% higher month on month. Seasonal factors and stronger global services activity drove demand to a record high, which, combined with lower crude output, led to an increase in prices.
Turning to production, Angola oil output rose to 1.17 million barrels per day (mbpd) in July, up from June’s 1.11 mbpd. Meanwhile, overall OPEC+ output decreased to 27.31 mpbd in July, down from June’s 28.15 mbpd, chiefly reflecting lower production in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
This year, our panelists see Angolan oil production below 2022 levels and well below the 10-year average of 1.49 mbpd. Reduced output at previously overproducing wells, maturing fields and maintenance work will hamper output.
